Rotator Cuff Tears

The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles that hold your arm bone in your shoulder socket and help you move your arm.

The rotator cuff helps lift your arm and rotate it inward and outward.

What is a tear?

A rotator cuff tear happens when the tendons partially or fully detach from the bone. Usual symptoms include:

  • Deep ache in the shoulder

  • Pain that worsens at night or when lying on the injured side

  • Weakness when rotating or lifting the arm

  • Clicking or popping sounds when moving the arm

How can I prevent it?

Strengthening and stabilizing the rotator cuff and shoulder is the best way to keep these muscles from weakening over time. Light resistance bands and controlled movement are the best, easiest way to improve shoulder strength.
